Prevention Program

Pre-Participation
Screening
|
| |
The pre-participation
screening provides the coach, dance teacher, the athlete and
the dancer, with an opportunity to identify predispositions
for injury and facilitates the development of a preventative-conditioning
program to correct or improve them. Screenings are designed
and conducted by athletic trainers and/or physical therapists
qualified in the participants' sport or dance technique.
We recommend
that all participants attain a "pre-participation physical"
from a qualified physician to identify any areas of medical
concern prior to participation in their chosen activity.
Motus-Care
currently offers the following pre-participation screenings.
These may be provided at your athletic facility or dance studio,
or on an individual basis at our clinic.
|
|
Training Readiness:
An activity-specific assessment based on those parameters
shown to predispose the athlete or dancer to acute and
chronic injury. Based on the results our specialists will
recommend an appropriate preventive-conditioning program
to minimize the risk of injury and improve training. |
|
|
First Contact:
Designed of participants involved in collision sports
such as football, rugby, and hockey. Individuals are given
a series of specific strength, flexibility, body control,
and other related tests to identify those areas with the
potential to predispose them to injury during the season.
|
|
|
Pre-Pointe Assessment:
Dancing 'en pointe' is the young ballerina's dream. However,
training 'en pointe' before the dancer has attained the
needed physical attributes, skill level, and physiological
maturity can be lead to both physical and psychological
injury. The Pre-Pointe Assessment has been developed to
assist the teacher and parent determine, as well as feel
confident in, the young student's readiness for training
'en pointe'. |
|
| |
Preventive-Conditioning
Program |
| |
Motus-Care
offers the individual as well as the organization preventative-conditioning
programs designed to reduce the incidence and severity of
injuries incurred during participation in sports or dance.
Each program is designed based on the known injury patterns
of the particular activity and the results of a pre-participation
screening and/or physician's physical.
Each
preventative-conditioning program consists of approximately
eight (8) to fifteen (15) selected exercises that target those
specific areas of deficiency or commonly injured in your particular
activity. Each program can be performed within 10-15 minutes
generally using minimal or no equipment. This allows the athlete
or dancer to include these exercises as a regular part of
their training and conditioning routine.

Management Program

Athletic
Injury Clinic (Wednesday Evenings) |
| |
The Athletic
Injury Clinic is provided as a free service to area athletes
and dancers. Our goal is to address participants' injuries
early so that an appropriate care plan can be initiated before
performance or health is seriously impacted. Medical emergencies
and illnesses should be directed to the nearest hospital or
urgent care center.
An athletic
trainer and a sports medicine physician provide basic evaluation
of sports or dance-related injuries; provide counsel on an
appropriate treatment strategy, and referral as appropriate
for follow-up care.
No appointment
is necessary. However, you must arrive at least 45 minutes
before closing to be seen. Services are provided on a first
come first served basis.
Disclaimer:
Procedures such as x-rays, CT-scans, laboratory tests, etc.
may be required for accurate diagnosis of the injury and are
not included as part of the clinical evaluation. If required,
a subsequent appointment with a physician may be necessary.
Individuals
are advised to follow-up with a physician if an injury does
not resolve (improve) within two days of implementing a recommended
self-care program.

evaluation, treatment and reconditioning exercises. The Program
is conveniently coordinated with and supported by Motus Center's

return to and continued participation after injury.
In addition
to minimizing the effect of injury on the athlete or dancer's
